Museo Regional de Guadalajara

Sculptor Alejandro Colunga and designer Martha Figueroa collaborated
to create "Ancestral Embrace." Utilizing the traditional materials for
making leather and rosewood equipal chairs, they have added new
textures and new materials - such as bronze - to sculpt equipal chairs
that are sometimes stately, sometimes whimsical. Ends January 9.
In addition, "Masters of Popular Art," an extensive exhibit of
artisans' work in ceramics, textiles and other folk art manifestations
from all over Mexico continues through January 15. Some 800 pieces are
on display.

Jose Sol Rosales has brought together some 300 fountain pens, inkwells
and other related objects from the Franz Meyer Museum in Mexico City
as well as from private collections, and traces the history of the
fountain pen from 1884 as it evolved parallel to the art styles in
vogue. Ends January 23.

The Ministry of Culture sponsors "Alternativas Plasticas Jalisco 2000"
("Jalisco 2000 Art Alternatives"), a collective showing of works by 46
prominent Jalisco artists in a variety of media. Ends January 10.

Salvador Rodriguez honors the Virgin of Guadalupe, who is venerated
throughout Mexico on December 12, with an exhibit of oil paintings
called "Guadalupe."

exhibit of artisans' work in ceramics, textiles and other folk art
manifestations from all over Mexico. Some 800 pieces are on display.

Four exhibits provide a picture of Jalisco from pre-Hispanic days to
the 20th century. "Western Mexico in Ancient Times" shows
archaeological treasures which depict animals, costumes, religious
objects, even festivals and the ritual ball game in ceramics. "The
Barroque Altar Pieces of Jalisco" includes an actual retablo set up in
the musem. "Jaliscan Portraits of the 19th Century" allows a look at
both the people and the portrait painters who forged a regional style.
In "Jose Clemente Orozco: Templates and Sketches for Murals in
Guadalajara," we can see how his monumental works evolved into their
final form. Together, these exhibits offer a powerful insight into
regional identity. Ends January 31.

Alessandra Parachini offers a restrospective of 33 drawings and prints
from the past ten years. Ends January 15.

Galeria La Mandragora

Midnight.
In "Presence of Earth and Wire," Alejandro Julian's collages utilize
the different textures of sand, clay, volcanic stones, and river rocks
while Pancho Madrigal sculpts haunting people and animal figure of
galvanized wire and copper. Ends January 8.
