
The Mexico Youth Symphony Orchestra hosts four free concerts in Guanajuato, Jalisco and Michoacan in December to kick off Mexico’s 2010 bicentennial celebrations and festivities for the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
The first concert takes place on Monday, December 14 at the Teatro Manuel Doblado in Leon; the second on Tuesday, December 15 at the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara (starts 9 p.m.); the third on Wednesday, December 16 at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala (starts 4 p.m.); and the final concert will be at the Teatro Morelos in Morelia on Thursday, December 17.
The Mexico Youth Symphony Orchestra will be accompanied by acclaimed flutist Horacio Franco and soprano Lourdes Ambriz, as well as the Youth Choir of the Republic and the Nuevo Tecalitlan Female Mariachis.
Jalisco will be represented by Alvaro Valencia on the cello, oboist David Padilla, violinist Luis Rincon and violist Mariana Garcia.
The concerts will feature a varied musical program with works by Mexican composers, including “Huapango” by Jose Moncayo, “Danzon No.2” by Arturo Marquez and “Cubanerias” by Luis Pastor. The orchestra will also play two pieces by Beethoven.
Some 100 members of the Youth Choir of the Republic – children aged from 7 to 14 – will interpret famous pieces by Jorge Cordoba, while 22 children from the Pedagogical Institute for Language Problems will use sign language to interpret Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The concert will close with the mariachi classic “Son de la Negra,” played by the Nuevo Tecalitlan Female Mariachis.
