Monday, March 15, 6 p.m.: Las Mujeres de el Mozote (The Women of El Mozote), directed by Emmy award-winning writer Marcos Villatoro. The story of five women who return to their native village in the highlands of El Salvador and become tour guides of the killing fields where nearly the entire population was massacred by soldiers in 1981. (36 minutes)
Tuesday, March 16, 6 p.m.: Los Herederos (The Inheritors) filmed by accomplished Mexican documentarian Eugenio Polgovsky. A powerful visual portrait of child labor in rural Mexico as the camera follows the lives of youngsters who from an early age work alongside their parents and other adults in traditional trades such as farming, crop harvesting, brick making, weaving and figure carving. The 2009 winner of Mexican Ariels for best editing and best documentary feature. (90 minutes)
Wednesday, March 17, 6 p.m.: world premiere of Agua de Tabasco (Tabasco Water), directed by Adriana Camacho. Spotlighting the southeastern state of Tabasco in the wake of devastating floods in 2007, the film explores how water can become a menace when not properly managed. It also delves into the theme of natural disasters provoked by climate and land-use change, deforestation, corruption and misguided policies. The film is a candidate for the festival’s award for best Mexican documentary.
