Two of the world’s finest virtuosos of classical and flamenco guitar will take a Lakeside audience on a specially created journey through Spain at the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago on Tuesday, March 23, 7:30 p.m.
Juanito Pascual and Grisha Goryachev, who generally travel the world as solo acts, have been brought together by the Music Appreciation Society (MAS) for this special occasion. Listeners will be treated to the haunting melodies of Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranguez,” Albeniz’s “Cordoba” and “Sevilla.” The virtuosos will also play de Falla’s “Danza de Fuego,” “La Vida Breve,” and “Concion del Fuego Fatuo” and Lecuona’s “Malaguena.” Besides some interesting original pieces, several flamenco tunes will round out what will surely be an enchanting evening.
Pascual is widely regarded as one of the top flamenco guitarists in the world. He has worked with the finest flamenco musicians and dancers and his original works have won global praise. Goryachev is a native of Russia, where he was a child prodigy. He is acclaimed for his blinding dexterity and recognized as a master of both the classical and flamenco styles. He now resides in the United States and has managed to transcribe the mostly unpublished flamenco music by ear from recordings.
This is the last MAS concert of the season and no one should miss it. Tickets for 250 pesos are on sale through March 23 at the Tickets, Etc. booth at the Lake Chapala Society from 10 a.m. to noon and Charter Club Tours at Plaza Montana.
