The last offering from the Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) of their 45th season will be a sweet and savory farce, “Cash on Delivery” written by Michael Cooney and directed by Bob Coull, opening on Saturday, April 3.
Like all farces, this one is reliant on exaggerated situations, blackmail, mistaken identities, nefarious schemes and the rapidity and rhythm of a speeding bullet. The minute it slows down and the audience actually has time to figure the whole thing out, the ridiculousness of the story becomes apparent and the hysteria dies.
This cast, with some tried and true veterans and some energetic newcomers, should be up to the task of pulling off what is considered the most difficult form of theater for actors with its myriad words, lively blocking and intense interaction. A cast member has pointed out that the farce played earlier in the LLT season, “Don’t Dress for Dinner,” has set the bar pretty high and that everyone involved in this production will work hard to make the hurdle.
Cast members are Gerry Martilla-Robertson, Zane Pumiglia, Ken Yakiwchuk, Jim Donnelly, Marty Davis, Amy Friend, Jack Vanesko, Pierre Blackburn, Daphne Peerless and Chris L’Ecluse. The assistant director is Shirley Applebaum and Kathleen Neal is the stage manager.
Tickets are 150 pesos each and will be on sale at the theater box office Thursday, April 1 (not a joke), Friday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. The box office is also open at the same time each day of the run (until April 11) and one hour before curtain (7:30 p.m. except Sundays when the matinee is at 3 p.m.)
Get there early and enjoy the Angel Patio and easy parking.
