The dazzling dance show is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., with more than three hours of continuous entertainment featuring ballet folklorico troupes from 13 communities in the lakeshore region. The program will climax at 7 p.m. when 650 handsomely costumed couples and a live mariachi band take the stage to perform the colorful Estampa Jalisco. For the grand finale the dancers will kick up their heels to the lively strains of El Tranchete, Las Alazanzas, El Son de la Negra and the ever popular Jarabe Tapatio, better known to expats as the Mexican hat dance.
An eye-popping fireworks display reflected in Lake Chapala’s water will cap off the program.
Organized by Jalisco’s Ministry of Culture in conjunction with the Independence bicentennial festivities, the massive ballet folokorico program brings together dance groups from the municipalities of Atotonilco el Alto, Ayotlan, Chapala, Degollado, Jamay, Jocotepec, La Barca, Octolan, Poncitlan, Tizapan el Alto, Tototlan, Tuxcueca and Zapotlan del Rey.
