Art in the stacks
In case you haven’t noticed, there is an extensive art exhibited mounted in the library of the Lake Chapala Society. Titled “Janice Kimball and the Urzuas,” the show displays several weavings by Teo Urzua, mostly inspired by pre-Hispanic patterns, as well as paintings by Kimball, mostly pertaining to the “Dance of the Old Men” in Michoacan. There are also some new weavings, and a hint of what’s to come by Francisco Urzua, Teo’s son. All of the art pieces are for sale and a 25-percent commission goes to the LCS library. Find prices on the cards and tags with the art work. This exhibit is up until April 15.
You can see more of Kimball’s and Urzua’s works and watch Teo and Francisco create original tapestries at their colonial looms. The Aztec Studio is located at Carretera Pte. 232 in Rancho del Oro in west Ajijic. Take the Danza del Sol exit and make an immediate left on the service road.
The studio is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
