Sing
Cantantes del Lago, Lakeside’s professionally directed 60-plus-voice choir, is now accepting new members for the coming fall season. All voice parts are being sought, especially basses and tenors. It helps if new members are musically literate, able to read rhythmical and musical notation.
Those who are not members of the choir but are interested in joining or those who know of someone who might be interested are welcome to go to the website www.loscantantesdellago.com and click on the link “Join.” The page provides all of the guidelines for auditioning and being a member.
At the bottom of the page on the website is another link, “Sign Up Now.” The candidate should complete the information on that form and hit “Send Application.” Music Director Tim Welch promises to contact the applicant within days to schedule an audition.

A mural
Javier Zaragoza has returned to the town of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos to paint another mural. This one covers the exterior walls of the arcade near the town’s plaza and features the faces of six of Mexico’s heroes of the War for Independence (200 years ago) and the Revolution (100 years ago). They are painted in a huge format with each one more than four feet across. The second subject forming the background of the work tells the story of Ixtlahuacan. The work of art measures 150 by 61.5 feet and is nearing completion. It’s really something to see, so put aside an afternoon to take it in.
Zaragoza’s career as a muralist began more than 40 years ago at the age of 16, when he painted wall panels in Ixtlahuacan’s church depicting the life of Saint James. He also painted a mural on the interior of the village’s city hall.
