Writer needed
Victoria Schmidt, editor of the American Legion Post Seven “Roll Call” magazine, is looking for a writer – preferably a military history buff – to contribute to the journal.
Roll Call caters to anyone living within the lakeside community and traditionally runs a column called “Military History.” The regular columnist resigned recently and Schmidt is in need of someone who can take over the monthly task.
She says the focus of the column can be anything dealing with the history of military conflicts, maneuvers, successes, failures, organizations from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico or any other country. These are feature-length articles and be anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 words or broken into two- or three-part series.
Schmidt is also looking for a proof-reader, who will meet with her once a month and check the printed hard copy draft prior to printing. She needs someone with an excellent command of punctuation, grammar and word use. The job requires about an hour and the copy will have already been draft-proofed once.
The pay for either of these positions is the same as the editor’s – zero.
Interested parties should contact Schmidt at victoriaschmidt@gmail.com.
Foursome
Four international award-winning artists – Dona Jonson, Lyn Rew, Linzy Roberts and Patrick DuMouchel – will present their latest work at a special exhibit with a gala opening reception to be held at the former Pedro’s Gourmet location (Ocampo 71 in Ajijic) on Saturday, August 21 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Calling themselves “Three Gals and a Guy,” the artists will also be set up on Sunday, August 22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be nibbles, a cash wine bar and raffle tickets for a chance to win door prizes of a gift certificate to GO, Pedro’s new upscale restaurant, theater tickets, and paintings by the artists. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Lakeside Spay and Neuter Center.
There will be a tequila-tasting on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., sponsored by Don Vita Tequila.
Live art demonstrations will show visitors special techniques used to create the works of art. Johnson, DuMouchel and Roberts all work in various forms of water media and Rew will be showing off her Huichol-style yarn painting. Come for the great art, good food, good cause and good conversation. Don’t miss.
