Valentine’s Day Gifts

Valentine’s Day is in a few days.  We saw a billboard ad saying (translated) “Declare your love to ...” Here are some things you can do to declare your love this Valentine’s Day. We’ve discussed in a few previous articles how to create and send an electronic greeting card, and you can, of course, always buy a physical card from a local store.

Food and flowers are always favorites. I love chocolate. My love gave me a small glass jar with Hershey’s Kisses a couple months ago for our anniversary. Or how about dinner out? Or a homemade dinner, perhaps with a special wine or añejo tequila, and candles.

Do something together. How about a weekend getaway? Or a cruise. Or a spa treatment. If you’ve never done it, perhaps take a ride on the Tapatio bus tour.  Walk along the beach at sunset (or sunrise). Sit or lie out under the stars, perhaps with a shared mp3 playing softly.  Rent and watch a video together. or watch one online (www.liketelevision.com or www.moviescapital.com, for example), perhaps with a scented candle burning in the background.

A gift basket can include many things: a card, foods (cheeses, nuts, baked goods, tequila, wine), candies, a ticket or voucher, inscribed (“From your love on this day of love”) or otherwise personalized jewelry, keyring or other trinket. Did you know that Guadalajara is the silver capital of Mexico? There are over a hundred jewelry shops at the east end of Plaza Tapatia.

A specialty from a local craftsman or artist, especially if you have it personalized: jewelry, music box, painting, clothing, copper flower with photo frame or bronze bell, ceramic water dispenser or coffee mug, hand woven basket.

It may not be quite as romantic, but what about giving a useful gift for someone’s computing needs or desires. Perhaps a computer memory upgrade, or a new monitor or sound card. iPod, camera, USB dog-tag or keychain. A photo frame, whether digital or paper, and be sure to include a romantic photo of the two of you. Or an entire memory book or photo album. Office stores can print your digital photos and bind them into a book for you. Or an online photo album for the world to see, or for your own personal viewing.

How about an online gift card for music, a game, an iApp, or a video? Send them a special email or simply a text on their cell phone.

And remember that whatever you decide to do, it doesn’t have to be on that special day. One day early might make it more of a surprise.
