But what happens if you don’t get your bill, something that happens more often than we would like to admit? Sure you could go to your local CFE office with a handful of cash and pay whatever the cashier states. But I have a better idea. Why not create an online account, where you can simply go on line, and get a copy of your bill, minus the barcode? It’s simple to do, even if your Spanish is lacking. Let me show you.
The next time you’re on line, go to www.cfe.gob.mx , the electric utility’s home page. Partway down on the left hand side of the page you will see a place to sign in and to the right of that area is a link titled “Registrate aquí” (register here). Left-click thereon, and you will be taken to a page were you are asked for four pieces of information. They ask for 1. a username (nombre de usuario), I use my last name, 2. A password (contraseña): 3. They ask you to confirm your password and 4. They ask for your email address (Correo electrónico). That’s it. Now left-click on “Aceptar” and if no one else is using your username or password, you’re signed in.
You then will be directed to a registration page where you connect your electric account to the username and password you just gave. Again, the instructions are simple. Just fill out the two blank spaces the first of which asks you to enter your name as written on your CFE statement and the second your account number as written on your bill, Once you have done so, push the finalizar (finalize) link. When I followed those instructions to include entering my 12 digit account number with a space after each three digits as shown on my bill, I failed, however when I entered those 12 numbers without a space I registered my account and was able to get my account information.
Now I need simply go to www.cfe.gob.mx and enter my username and password and a page comes up showing my name, account #, date and the amount due. Also shown on the very left hand side of the data line is an emblem showing the bill. To see the details of the bill, left-click on the emblem and the next webpage will be a copy of your statement. Everything is there, except for the barcode.
Sadly without the barcode you can’t pay at Oxxo or the other places listed on this website, but you will know how much you owe when you go to your local CFE office.
