Borrow a book

A new kind of library is open at the Plazoleta Libertad, two blocks east of Chapultepec (also one block from the U.S. Consulate). There are no membership cards, no checkout policies, no return policies. Instead, anyone can donate books and pick up others as they so choose. The library is the brainchild of the Colectivo Triciclo, a group of architects and designers who briefly tried the idea near the Basilica in Zapopan before being joined by Colectivo Americana and moving for government support.

Seniors Rock!

Two music events in La Manzanilla recently brought out the gray-hairs in force, and they rocked.  I love watching members of my generation dance to cover songs that were originals back in the day.  The moves may not be as elaborate, but we still have ‘em.  With the right amount of tequila at these moments, I can see a crowd of sixty-somethings looking just as good as they did in the 60s.

Local choir Los Cantantes del Lago are holding a raffle to raise funds for the Pro-Auditorio improvement fund.  “Raffle for the Arts” will feature more than 20 prizes going to winning ticket holders.

Jewish Films

The Third Annual Jewish Film Festival will get underway on Sunday, February 5 with the showing of a short film, “The Wall” and “Infidel,” beginning at 2 p.m. (starting early to accommodate Super Bowl fans). Other films will be shown on consecutive Sundays over six weeks, starting at 3 p.m. at the movie theater at Plaza Bugambilias.

The really big story about this year’s Mexican National Chili Cookoff is that it will go ahead as scheduled from Friday, February 10 through Sunday, February 12.
