Mexpat Posada

Meet, socialize and enjoy Christmas cheer with foreigners from all over the world at the Mexpat Christmas party on Sunday, December 13.

There will be catered food, an open bar, poker and even a trampoline for the kids.

The cost is 200 pesos (15 dollars) and the event starts at 2 p.m. at a private house in Colonia Americana. For full details and to register, go to www.mexpat.com.

altJunior League

The Junior League of Guadalajara raised lots of money last Saturday as dozens of women ran in seven-inch heels over a course at Plaza Galerias in a bid to win a new car. This was the second Carrera de Tacones and, amazingly, no one needed medical attention!

Brits meet

The next meeting of the British community will be on Saturday, December 5, 8:30 p.m. at the Culturalingua language school in Tlaquepaque. The school is located at Calle Reforma 31, between Herrera y Cairo and Emiliano Carranza, two blocks from the city center and El Parian restaurant. Call 3344-9139 for further details.

altExpo Pets

Looking for a Christmas present for your perro? You’re guaranteed to find it at Expo Mascotas, a huge exhibition of everything you could wish for – pet related, of course.

You can even bring your pup along, pick up some training tips and even get a vet to give him/her a free check-up.

A host of items for all pets will be on sale too.

The show is on Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13 at Expo Guadalajara (Mariano Otero and Avenida las Rosas) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Pets enter free but there will be a small charge for adult humans.

Rocks

A grand private collection of 2,400 rocks – worth an estimated 156,588 dollars – was handed over recently to Guadalajara city hall. Now 320 of these pieces are on display in a new pavilion mounted at the Guadalajara Paleontology Museum. The collection originates from five continents.

The Guadalajara Paleontology Museum opened in 2000 and has on display the fossils of diverse prehistoric animals found in Jalisco. Its founder, Federico Solorzano Barreto, is credited for discovering the remains of one of the first prehistoric humans in Jalisco.

Opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday  and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The museum is located at Av. Dr. R. Michel 520.
