Cardiomarathon

Around 10,000 people are expected to participate in the first University of Guadalajara cardiomarathon. The university is seeking to break the record set by Texas, when 4,626 people participated in a similar health training exercise at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

{/reg}Luis Miguel Espinosa, coordinator of the event, says the principal causes of death in Guadalajara in the 1960s were respiratory and stomach infections, but in the 1980s this shifted to heart disease.  “That’s why more people have been trained to recognize the symptoms of these illnesses. I hope that this event will inspire people to take better care of their health,” he said.

The marathon will take place on Sunday, March 21 at the Estadio Jalisco, beginning at 9.a.m.

Tonala Museum

A plan has been proposed to convert Tonala’s municipal palace into a museum of ceramic arts.

Tonala is one of Jalisco’s main tourist attractions and is recognized throughout Mexico for its mass production of folk art.. However, everyone admits the town itself can prove to be a bit of an eyesore. That’s why giving the municipality a face-lift  is one of the main tasks facing new mayor Juan Antonio Mateos.

Under the plan, Tonala’s administrative offices will be relocated to the Palemon Garcia Real, a modern office building located on Avenida Cihualpilli.

It will take approximately six months for remodeling work and the relocation of offices to be completed before the museum can begin to take shape.

“We don’t have the 23 million pesos that is required to undertake the project, but we are determined to find these funds,” Mateos said.
