Winning smiles say it all!

The Chili Cookoff was a resounding success this year as every year. Here's the photographic evidence.

The big winners of the weekend were Greg Couillard and Caitlin Wallis of Chili Bang Bar. They won both Friday's salsa competition and Sunday's chili contest for professional cooks. A real crowd pleaser at the Mexican Chili Cook-off on February 27, was this 1930 Model A Ford roadster owned by Jim Powers. Here, President of the Lake Chapala Shrine Club, Perry King, drives the vehicle in the parade, carrying the Mexican Queen of Carnaval. The top brass: (left to right) Mingchen Keller, United States Consul General in Guadalajara Daniel Keller, Cookoff founder and guiding light Ann Whiting, Wendy Johnson and MC Aurora Michel. Not this fan’s first chili cookoff, we guess! Chapala Mayor Jesus Cabrera picked out a blue T-shirt as his Cookoff souvenir. Consul General Daniel Keller, Chapala Mayor Jesus Cabrera and Jalisco Tourism Department representative Hugo Pegueros kick off Saturday’s competition by cutting a giant cake fresh from the Costco bakery. Raffle tickets were a hot commodity at this year’s Cookoff. The winner of a year’s subscription to the Reporter was Hank Shiver (left).

This clown entertained everyone with his upside-down antics. Sunday’s Professional Cooks winner Greg Couillard (R) is joined by third-placed Hector España of Mannix Restaurant in Ajijic. Peter St. John wins a coveted round-trip plane tickets from Delta. Betty Rennick was the other Sunday afternoon winner. The folks at Number Four of Ajijic enjoyed a very successful Cookoff. Here they show off their prize for the best decorated booth on Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t all about chili. Seen here are Silvia Flores and Boyd Simpson, masters of the weenie grill at the Centro de Desarrollo food booth.
