Ajijic home and business owners are being encouraged to get into the spirit of Mexico’s Independence Bicentennial and Revolution Centennial by dressing up their properties with decorative paintings. These new decorations can be as simple as borders around doors and gates to a full-fledged mural done on the outside walls of the property. Participants can paint their own creations or hire one of the local artists who are participating in the project to interpret their creation. Among those artists are Efren Gonzalez, Antonio Cardenas, Victor Alcanzar, Antonio Lopez Vega, Jesus Lopez Vega, Dionisio Morales and Miguel Marquez.

“Pinta tu Fachada” (Paint Your Facade) is supported by the Ajijic town administrator Javier Rojas, local artists and community leaders. The theme is an open one and artists are encouraged to use lots of color and creativity on exterior walls, doorways, garage doors, and even the utility poles as part of the patriotic celebration.
Contestants are required to register in the Pinta tu Fachada contest by July 31, with a 100-peso registration fee. The deadline for completing the project is September 2 to allow for judging in time for an awards ceremony on September 15.
Prizes are 6,000 pesos for first place, 4,000 pesos for second place and 2,000 pesos for third place.
All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation for participating in the effort to beautify Ajijic. Even those who do not register to enter the contest are encouraged to enhance their properties.
