North Banderas Beat - February 21, 2009

New artist on display

The Bucerias Art Walk Gallery recently began showing the work of island artist Beth Fedigan.

Blankets
Project Warmth, run by the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi international service sorority, distributed more than 400 blankets in the Bucerias and La Cruz communities.
Life in the tropics is reflected in her paintings with a bold and vibrant use of color and subject matter. Primarily a water colorist, Beth also works in acrylic, pastels & collage. To view some of her works visit www.bfedigan.com.

Beth Fedigan is also an accomplished basket weaver and designer, using all parts of a palm tree. She has held popular workshops on basket-making on her recent visit. For more information on upcoming workshops, contact thebuceriasartwalk@gmail.com.

Banderas Bay Regatta

The 17th annual Banderas Bay Regatta looks to be the highlight of the 2009 cruising season. This five-day event is specially designed to offer fun but competitive races with coastal and offshore cruisers in mind. Different classes will allow skippers to compete on an equal footing for agility and speed.

The Vallarta Yacht Club will be the headquarters and center of activities throughout the week. Things  kick off with a welcome reception in the waterside amphitheater of Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa on Tuesday, March 17. A musical serenade will introduce the famous Ballet Folkorico Mexcaltitan. The pride of Nayarit, these impressive dancers in colorful traditional costumes twirl and spin to the music and dances of Mexico.

Daily races will challenge salty sailors and crew (remember that the steady afternoon breezes help make Bahía de Banderas the best sailing venue on the Mexican Pacific coast).  Results will be posted daily, and final winners will be announced at an awards celebration on Saturday, March 21.

Live music and great food will be a great finale to this signature event of the Vallarta Yacht Club.  Sign up now to enter the Regatta and join the fun! Visit the www.banderasbayregatta.com for more information.

Volunteers needed

Due to the outstanding support and interest in recycling in Bucerias the recyclers of Bucerias announce a change in hours.

“We open the Bucerias Recycling Center two days a week to sort all of the recycling material coming in,” program organizer Barry Munro explained. “And we are looking for a few hearty souls to help with the sorting.”

Volunteers are needed 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Jalisco time, Mondays and Thursdays. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please call Munro at 329-298-2809 or email condoazul@hotmail.com.

Participants in the recycling program are reminded that cardboard and clear glass are now accepted for processing. Please do not put glass in the recycling baskets – it should be brought to the recycling lot on Calle Encino.

Real Estate

John Forget, owner of Elements Realty Group, has announced a new guarantee.

“Put our 24-Hour Client Service Guarantee to the test,” Forget says.  “If we don’t get back to you within 24 hours (it’s usually under an hour or two), you get 200 bucks to the Vallarta area restaurant of your choice (or you can donate it to one of the fine charities in the bay). We ask for some slack on Sunday because we run a family friendly operation.”

John, his wife Christie, and their four children are all involved in Bucerias community activities.

In order for the guarantee to be valid, you must be an active Elements Realty Group client. Register by phone or on the website – www.elementsofmexico.com.

Project Warmth

The local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi international service sorority recently completed their Project Warmth. The project was funded by a sorority-sponsored wine and cheese party in November and donations from the Bucerias and La Cruz communities.

Service committee chair Linda DeMeerleer said, “Thanks to many generous contributors, we were able to purchase and distribute more than 400 blankets to those in need in Bucerias and La Cruz.”

“We also were able to buy warm outfits for many local babies and children. Beta Sigma Phi says thank you to everyone who helped make Project Warmth a success.” Said DeMeerleer.

Johnny Rockets

Juan Carlos Camarena Herrera and Jose Manuel Villanueva have become the newest Johnny Rockets franchisees, the company announced today. They are expected to open a minimum of five restaurants during the next five years, opening the first in 2009. Camarena and Villanueva will own and operate classic restaurants in Jalisco, Mexico state, and the Nuevo Vallarta region, in the state of Nayarit.
