Good art and good taste

“Mission accomplished,” organizer Christy Beguesse said of the first annual Taste of Riviera Nayarit and Bucerias Chalk Art Walk.

The sidewalk chalk art festival and food fair proved to be a winning combination but Beguesse credits much of the success of the event to its generous sponsors.

Beguesse’s helpers included Brad at Mount Hood Cleaners; Kathy and Jim, who provided airfares for the participating artists from the U.S.; Valerie Scott; Rosemary Alder; Sue and Jim McClymond; Stephanie Schurz; Loraine and Robert Orthlieb; The Winged Iguana Gallery; Best of Bucerias.com and Pat and Carol Kane, who sponsored the free children’s chalk art workshops.

Her thank you list also included Barry Munroe and his crew, that did a miraculous job of making sure there was not one piece of litter left behind and recycled all the cans and plastic bottles; Jan Benton and the McClymonds for housing the artists; volunteers Harold, Donna, Frank, Cynthia, Sandy, Jean, Marisol, Marisol’s Mom, Carol, Pat, Mike, the crew from P.E.A.C.E. and Lisa and Wayne Elliott, who provided airport transportation and Corona and Coca-Cola, which supplied the tents and chairs.

Beguesse said she really appreciated the work of the 18 participating restaurants and caterers.

“The displays were beautiful and the food was to die for,” she said.

“There was something there for everyone and having the tents and seating areas, the over 1,500 people who attended, were able to sit enjoy a snack, cold beverage, while watching the artists perform.” She said many of the people in this area have never been exposed to this type of art and thinks they were pleasantly surprised.

Beguesse added that the exposure the restaurants received was immeasurable.

“I heard over and over again how people never knew of this or that establishment and are definitely going to frequent the restaurant after tasting the samples.”

Beguesse also thanked the artists – Antonio Collantes, Lori Escalera, Lorelle Miller and Julio Jimenez – for their great work.

“For three days our street was literally a canvas, bestowing beautiful pieces of art. The real thrill for me was on the last day when we held free workshops for children.”

About 25 kids learned the craft and had a great time. Lunch was provided by P.E.A.C.E. and all the children went home with their own supply of chalk.

Sales from the souvenir aprons raised 10,000 pesos for the free spay and neuter clinics held by P.E.A.C.E.

Proteccion Civil

The offices and station for the Civil Protection firetrucks and ambulances has moved to a more central location in the municipality of Bahia de Banderas.

People used to seeing the bright red vehicles parked along Hwy 200, on the northbound side after crossing over the Ameca River bridge from Jalisco into Nayarit, will have to look a little harder to see them now.

The department’s new quarters are in Bucerias, on the southbound lateral near the Av. Estaciones traffic light. The firefighters say this is only a “temporary” location, with the municipal government promising better facilities “in one or two years.”  In the meantime, the new location will allow speedier responses to emergencies.

Mystery Night

Come and meet the ALLSURE family (or what’s left of it) as you step into the world of family fortune and MURDER!

Every year, these pitiless people meet in lovely Bucerias to update the family inheritance. Two family members have already “bit the dust!”

The mystery dinner theater will take place on February 13 at the gorgeous La Vida Resort on the beach, Calle Lazaro Cardenas 61 at Javier Mina in Bucerias.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for cocktails; dinner and drama will begin at 7:30 p.m. (Jalisco time).

Come experience this unusual and fantastic evening for only 500 pesos per person, which includes a sit-down dinner catered by Karen’s Restaurant, one beverage and the show. A cash bar will be available.
