Lakeside area offers budding market for green growers

When a couple of lakeside expatriates with a hunger for healthful, naturally-grown produce began building ties with local organic farmers, none of them imagined that a few months later a one-on-one business relationship would develop into a community enterprise. But that is what has happened in the six months since the farmers began making weekly visits to a private home to set up a backyard market of their goods.

Operating under the wing of Green Transition in Action – an off-shoot of the Lake Chapala Green Group – the Tianguis Organico has become a budding outlet for green growers and purveyors of all sorts of natural, earth-friendly products.

As of July 20, the whole foods marketplace has gone public with a new venue in the parking lot located below the Hole in One driving range-restaurant in San Antonio Tlayacapanm, where more than a dozen vendors set up every Tuesday morning between 10 a.m. and noon. The space is provided free of charge, courtesy of owner Leopoldo Paz and his SuperLake partner Pancho Montes.
