Bad menu choice lands restaurant owner in jail

ZAPOPAN - A restaurant owner in Zapopan has been arrested for offering turtles’ eggs on his menu.

According to a police report, Ricardo Galindo, the proprietor of The Smiling Lobster on Avenida Copernico, was detained after a customer reported him to authorities.  Raiding sea turtle nests for eggs and their subsequent sale are considered serious criminal offenses in Mexico, with punishment of up to nine years in prison.
