IBM plans new investment in Jalisco plant

The IBM technology plant in El Salto will receive 20 million dollars for a production expansion after beating competition for the contract from similar plants in Israel, Hungary, Poland and the United States.

The data storage device known as “a XIV” will be produced at the plant outside Guadalajara, which exports over 100 million dollars’ worth of technological products annually.

The data storage devices can reduce energy costs by 80 percent and operative costs by 70 percent, says IBM. They negate the need to physically send data, instead firing it off digitally at a moment’s notice.

With the new investment, local IBM executives hope that new lines of IT products and services will be attracted to Mexico.
