Guadalajara seems unable to fix the roads and sidewalks leading to its “New” bus station (la Central Nueva).
Construction work in the area (budgeted at 31 million pesos) began last April and still unused materials lie on the road edges vying for space with rubble and potholes. Roads and curbs are unfinished, traffic lights don’t work and broken sewage drains spill odiferous liquids onto streets. Add to that a charge of four pesos to use bathrooms in the station and taxis that cheat out-of-towners on their fare and you’ve got a perfect welcome from Mexico’s second largest city.
