Chapala’s Centro de Salud has received the first local supply of vaccinations to prevent infection from the A-H1N1 influenza virus.
Amalia Morales, a nurse at the state-operated health facility, shows one of the 16 packages of the vaccine delivered on Monday, December 7. According to clinic director Jose de Jesus Gonzalez, each vial contains the equivalent of 15 individual doses. The application of the first batch of shots is reserved for health service personnel and pregnant women in the second and third trimester of gestation.
To date, 3,712 confirmed cases of H1N1 swine flu have been registered in the state of Jalisco, with 63 fatalities attributed to the disease. Chapala has not been identified as a high-risk zone.
