Jose Martin Ramos Rojas, 18, and Abraham Sebastian Ibon Reyes, 29, were killed on the Riberas del Pilar segment of the Chapala-Ajijic highway when an automobile crashed into the back of the motorcycle they were riding. The accident was reported at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21.
According to Chapala Ministerio Publico (MP) public prosecutor agent Mary Martinez Gutierrez, the force of the collision projected the two victims more than 170 meters from the point of impact, causing instant death and leaving the motorcycle incrusted in the front end of a 2008 model Mazda sedan driven by Chapala resident Luis Carlos Anaya Ramirez, 25.
On January 23, the MP remanded Anaya to the Chapala criminal court to face charges of manslaughter and material damages, with speeding and mild intoxication cited as aggravating circumstances.
