Chapala, Ajijic renovation projects gain steam

Sections of both Chapala’s central avenue and the Ajijic plaza may have suddenly turned into treacherous wastelands as major renovation projects have finally gotten under way.

Sidewalks bordering most of Chapala’s Avenida Francisco Madero are in the process of getting a full overhaul. The two-block stretch running on the west side of the avenue between Calle Degollado and the main intersection at Hidalgo has been torn up to accommodate underground installation of all electrical and electronic communication lines prior to resurfacing with tile blocks matching  the southernmost segment nearest the waterfront tourist zone. Once that part is finished, work will start on the opposite side of the street. The project will be continued in similar fashion along two block sections, reaching to the north end as far as the termination of the green area median strip. Chapala’s public works department is projecting completion by the end of March.
