US State Department expands Mexico travel alert

The U.S. State Department has issued an updated travel alert for Mexico, adding the states of Durango and Coahuila as potentially dangerous places to visit.

“Recent violent attacks have caused the U.S. Embassy to urge U.S. citizens to delay unnecessary travel to parts of Michoacan, Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua, and to advise U.S. citizens residing or traveling in those areas to exercise extreme caution,” reads the February 22 alert.
