Effective September 8, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin collecting a fee of 14 dollars in connection with issuing an ESTA travel authorization (Electronic System for Travel Authorization), which non-immigrants are required to have in order to enter the United States by air or by sea under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
The VWP enables eligible nationals of 36 designated countries (including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands) to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. (Canadian citizens do not need an ESTA or visa to enter the United States.)
