Howard Dreicer

Lakeside resident Howard Dreicer died August 30 in a Jacksonville, Florida hospital. He was 79 years old.

Born March 22, 1931 in the Bronx, New York, Dreicer graduated from school early, lying about his age and joining the U.S. Air Force. He went to work as a pilot for Eastern Airlines after his military service and then formed his own company, flying airplanes made in the United States to purchasers in Israel.

He married Pearl in 1963 in Long Island, New York and started a financial planning business, Dreicer, Cantin and Associates, that specialized in finding money for large projects. After many years, he retired from business until his son Jay decided that he wanted to be a chef. He and his son bought a restaurant and then a large catering hall that they operated for ten years.

When Dreicer left the restaurant business, he bought a horse farm in Colts Neck, New Jersey that specialized in the care of trotters and pacers and, according to his wife, he had the time of his life.

When he sold the farm to retire again, he and his wife moved to Mexico and Lakeside in 1995. Dreicer was active in the Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT), lending his extraordinary talent, intelligence and personality to the stage in several productions. He was also active in the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation and was instrumental in the congregation securing property for a Jewish cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Dreicer, of the Raquet Club; his son Scott Dreicer, wife Nancy and children Jarret and Jesse of Jacksonville, Florida; son Robert Dreicer, wife Joan and children Jessica and Ariel in Ohio; son Jay Dreicer, wife Joanne and children Jaclyn and Jillian of New Jersey and daughter Shar Dreicer of Red Bank, New Jersey.

Dreicer made many friends wherever he went. He was a bright spot of any day and showered those around him with goodwill and love.

A memorial service and subsequent burial in the cemetery he helped establish is being planned. Details will be announced later.
