Recently I visited Chapala and Ajijic while vacationing in Mexico. The beauty of the area and the friendliness of the local Mexican people toward the many expatriates amazed me. While visiting friends in Chula Vista, I was astounded to learn of the dispute there between two groups headed up by fellow Canadians.I am totally embarrassed by the action taken by Janet Peace and her group. Don’t they know how to behave in a foreign country? They basically started a coup for they own selfishness and over-rode the democratic process of the duly elected board. Going behind the board, elected at the 2009 AGM, and starting their own “group,” resulted in closing down the funds needed for the local Mexican workers and other expenses. They know you could not get away with this in Canada!
I would advise them to cease all their illegal activity before they end up in serious trouble in a foreign country.
During my stay in this beautiful region I was so happy for my countrymen (and a bit envious) that they had found such a tremendous place to retire and were accepted by the Mexican people. However, I would conclude that this isn’t quite enough for Janet Peace (the irony of the family name Peace is just laughable). Grievances such as hers have a due process, yet she neglected to follow such process.
I only hope this issue is resolved by the time this letter is published and that the harmony of the residents of Chula Vista and the local Mexican community will once again flourish at Lakeside.
