Dear Sir,
We enjoyed a nice relaxed visit at the new Bistro Pranzo by the Glorieta in La Floresta last Sunday.
After we had been there for some time, we were asked to leave the premises, because people from the Chapala Ayuntamiento showed up to close the Bistro down right at that very moment. We learned from the owner of the Bistro that he had advised the Fraccionamiento of La Floresta of his plans to open the Bistro and that they did not have a problem with it. Based on their approval, he went ahead and applied for the license and started making the modifications to open the establishment. However, when he came to pick up the license, he was advised that the Fraccionamiento of La Floresta had in the meantime filed a complaint and they could not issue the license.
As in most Fraccionamientos, there always seem to be some people who will go out of their way to find something to complain about. Remember Chula Vista? It is hard to understand why too many in the expatriate community create so many problems. Apart from the fact that the Fraccionamiento had given verbal approval to the Bistro owner, it is hard to imagine why anyone would abject to such a beautiful facility. It was built with class and to high standards.
Having spent some time at the Bistro and speaking with the owner, it appears that the “complaints” are just nit-picking. The way the Bistro is laid out is very functional, beautiful and serves a purpose.
It is difficult to fathom that we, as expatriates and guests in this beautiful country and who have been graciously welcomed to live here, feel the need to oppose a local business man in operating a quality business.
I find it a disgrace that we as guests in this country tell the local business people what they can or cannot do.
This is not the United States or Canada and, like it or not, we should be supportive of Mexican people who take the initiative to start a business. The Bistro was employing at least half-a-dozen young people who are now out of work.
I ask the board of La Floresta’s Fraccionamiento to live up to their original agreement and to allow the Bistro.
This Bistro is a great place for the local Mexicans and us, the non-Mexicans, to spend time together and to enjoy a relaxed visit together.
What can one have against that?
