Is taxing the average wage earner morally responsible?

According to the U.N. Statistics Division, the average national wage in the United States in 2007 was around 45,000 dollars. Anyone earning that amount could safely expect to have received some kind of tax relief under the plans outlined by Barack Obama during his presidential campaign.
