The outlook for a recent graduate in Mexico is bleak. The unemployment rate in the last quarter of the year was 5.38 percent.
For a student fresh out of university the chances of finding work are very slim, not only due to the high rate of unemployment in the country but also because there are few real opportunities available to students.
Mexico’s education system is not designed to provide students with the one to two years of experience that employers demand, so it is very difficult for new graduates to find work that is fulfilling.
So-called “work experience” has little value when applying for jobs, because the students are relegated to carrying out meaningless tasks such as carrying messages or buying goods at the corner store.
