Chivas duped by fraudster

Share

The Chivas soccer team got a nasty surprise on a recent trip to the United States, when thousands of dollars were stolen from their Los Angeles hotel. {reG}A man wearing the red-and-white Chivas shirt greeted and hugged members of the team as they exited their hotel and got on the team bus. The mystery man then convinced hotel staff that he was part of the team’s entourage and persuaded them to give him room keys. A total of 10,000 dollars was reported missing by the players.

The Chivas team may not have been the only ones duped by the fraudster, say police. An Israeli basketball team was 26,000 dollars short on returning to their locker room after an exhibition game against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Staples Center. The man, caught on camera with slicked back hair in both cases, had used a suit and clipboard and false credential to gain access to the changing facilities.

Finally, another Los Angeles hotel believed that a similar-looking man was part of a 30-member salsa group and gave him keys to their room in exchange for a CD.
The search for the fraudster is ongoing.{/reg}
