Perez eyes GP2 championship

Tapatio racing driver Sergio “Checo” Perez picked up his fourth win of the GP2 calendar at Spa, Belgium last weekend to solidify his position in second place in the championship, 27 points behind Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado.

The feeder series into Formula 1 is fiercely competed by young drivers from all over the world. Perez is holding his own and even hopes to overturn Maldonado’s big lead in the remaining four races.

“The victory allows me to keep hope of winning the title,” said Perez after the race.

The next two races take place in Monza, Italy on September 11 and 12.

Although the odds are against him, Perez has a great record at Monza and says that will work in his favor.

“Monza is a track I like a lot. You have to take the car to the limit and make the laps perfect. Those are the conditions I like,” said the Tapatio.

Perez looks like having a very decent chance of winning a seat in Formula 1 next year, which would probably make him an overnight superstar in his hometown of Guadalajara and famous throughout the world.
