Ronaldo proves too deadly for Chivas

Local soccer team Guadalajara Chivas were humbled by Portugese goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo when they took on Real Madrid in a friendly in San Diego on Wednesday night.

Billed as a clash of the titans, the match pitted Mexico’s most popular team against the world’s most successful domestic club.

Madrid fielded a strong side, including the likes of Kaka, Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil, yet Chivas held their own for most of the tie and the game was still level with just 15 minutes remaining.

But then Ronaldo struck. The Portugese forward netted three times in just ten minutes, outdoing his former Manchester United team mate Wayne Rooney, who had completed a 20-minute hat-trick earlier that evening in the 7-0 demolition of Seattle Sounders.

Chivas must now pick themselves up for the first game of the new season. They face Atlante away from home on Saturday, July 23. Kick off is at 9 p.m.
