Tapatio teams in crisis

Guadalajara’s three professional soccer sides have endured a torrid start to the new season, failing to win a game between them.

After finishing top of the table in last season’s league stage, Guadalajara Chivas are now third from bottom, having lost their opening two fixtures in the Clausura 2012. A 1-0 home defeat to Atlante followed by a 3-1 defeat to Jaguares in Chiapas has left coach Fernando Quirarte in danger of being fired.

Relegation rivals Atlas and Estudiantes Tecos have fared little better. Atlas at least claimed a point in their opening game, a goalless draw in Puebla, before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat by Cruz Azul on Saturday.

Having lost 3-1 to Toluca and 2-0 to San Luis, Tecos look in most danger of being relegated.
